What is Merchport?

Merchport is an online marketplace focused on Hong Kong’s original designs and crafts. The platform showcases products that are designed, manufactured, and originated in Hong Kong.

 

Our platform is dedicated to gathering Hong Kong’s original handcrafts and brands, providing consumers and small brands a place to access these products. We hope to connect with more local designers, so that consumers can purchase designs with greater assurance through the platform, and shops can expand their customer base at zero cost, promoting more genuinely heartfelt designs.

Why Merchport?

We aim to create a platform that focuses on products that are original designed and made in Hong Kong because the current market lacks a platform that allows consumers to search for Hong Kong small brands in one place. Usually, they need to go to bazaars or search through social media one by one. However, for shops, opening a shop on other similar platforms may incur high costs or commissions, which not every shop can afford.

 

Therefore, choosing to open a shop at Merchport is a wise decision. We provide a platform specifically designed for Hong Kong small brands, making it convenient for consumers to access locally guaranteed original products.

 

In addition, Merchport does not charge any deposits, listing fees, or product commissions to shop owners, making us more competitive compared to other platforms. For small brands, Merchport provides a zero-cost platform to expand their customer base without incurring high costs, promoting more genuinely heartfelt designs.

What are the fees for using Merchport?

Opening a shop on the Merchport platform does not require any deposits, listing fees, platform fees, or product commissions. We aim to provide a truly zero-cost platform for local cultural and creative small brands.

How does Merchport operate?

Merchport adopts a self-management model, allowing shop owners to manage their stores independently, including listing and delisting products, managing inventory, and arranging delivery. Merchport does not charge any management fees to shop owners. This model can bring more business opportunities to shop owners while allowing consumers to purchase high-quality creative products at a more favorable price.

 

Merchport has a shopping and payment function within the app. Merchport collects payment first, and the funds are placed in the shop’s wallet. Shop owners can apply for withdrawals at any time. After approval, the funds will be transferred to the shop owner on the 1st of every month. We will charge a small handling fee based on the percentage of the withdrawal amount.

What is the handling fee?

The handling fee for cash withdrawal varies according to the amount withdrawn: if the amount withdrawn is $2000 or less, the handling fee is 4% of the amount withdrawn; if the amount withdrawn is between $2001 and $4999, the handling fee is 2% of the amount withdrawn; if the amount withdrawn is $5000 or more, the handling fee is 1% of the amount withdrawn. As we will also be charged a handling fee when we transfer money through the bank, we hope everyone can understand the situation.

What payment methods does Merchport support? Do we accept consumption vouchers?

Merchport currently supports Payme and Paypal payments and accepts Payme consumption vouchers. Consumers can purchase products directly on the app. In the future, we will add more payment methods to make it more convenient for consumers and shop owners.

How to become a Merchport merchant?

Becoming a Merchport merchant is easy!

First, download the Merchport app, then follow the registration tutorial below:

 

 

The approval process takes about five working days. If approved, you will receive an SMS notification, and then you can start listing your products.

How to increase the chances of approval?

To open a shop on the Merchport platform, the products must be designed, manufactured, and originated in Hong Kong. We also review the quality of the shop’s products, design style, and brand positioning to ensure that the shop and its products align with our brand values.

 

If you want to increase the chances of approval, it is recommended to provide more pictures and detailed information about the products, such as the inspiration behind the design, the production process, the materials used, etc. The pictures should also comply with Merchport’s guidelines. It is also recommended to provide more information about the shop, such as its brand story, positioning, and operating philosophy. This will enable us to have a more comprehensive understanding of the shop and its products, thereby increasing the chances of approval.

In addition to the app, will there be a web version of Merchport?

In addition to the app, we have also launched a computer web version and a web application (Web App). The Merchport app can be downloaded from the App Store and Play Store.

How to increase the chances for product photo approval?

  • Use high-quality product images that are clear, bright

  • Keep a consistent and professional style and background for product images that reflects your store’s style.

  • Show the product from multiple angles and with close-up photos of important details.

  • Avoid using too many filters or edits to maintain the product’s authenticity. Use natural lighting and avoid adding unnecessary photo borders, text, or watermarks.

  • Avoid placing the brand’s logo or name on the product image.

  • Keep it simple by showing only one product per image. Upload additional photos for different product styles.

  • Place detailed product information in the product description rather than on the product image.
